The Indian Performing Arts in Singapore

This sister site (to the "world-wide" Indian dance education site www.kanakasabha.com) was launched in February 2002 in order to provide the Indian performing arts community - artistes and rasikas - in Singapore with a one-stop web-site to catch up on what's going on with the Indian arts scene in Singapore. After more than two years online, we're delighted to report that a total of 450 events (from big ticketed events at prestigious venues with internationally renowned Indian professional artistes, to the small free temple event with a group of first year Carnatic vocal music students performing to an appreciative audience of their kith and kin) were featured for the calendar year 2002, and an even larger number in 2003. In spite of our best personal efforts to list every single event in advance, quite a few continue to miss our notice. Very few organizers send us advance program information in spite of repeated email and mailed and personal reminders. If you are a user of this board, we request you to ask artistes and organizers you know to email us at rama@kanakasabha.com in advance about their forthcoming events. If you have contacts in the various temples, please let their managements know that we would like to feature all temple concerts and the temples' own musicians on our site. By regular mail, we may be reached at 24, Jalan Lada Puteh, Singapore 228936 or call us at 6238-8706.

We have also built up a small database of schools of music and dance and of performing artistes in the fields of classical music, dance and theatre. We would be delighted to provide free links to web-sites of any independent teachers, artistes and schools not already listed here. If you don't have a web-site, we can create a small page listing at least the salient biographical details (click here for a sample page), and contact information; artistes and organizers are often looking for collaborators and performers and we would like to be able to help those efforts along. If you would like to be listed on our site, please fill out this form and send it to us by email or regular mail. We would like to list every artiste who performs and/or teaches in some field of the Indian performing arts and has at least given an arangetram or advanced graduating public performance.

We thank littleindia.com.sg , embassyofindia.com (the official site of the Indian High Commission in Singapore) and Syama for linking to our site. If you are an artiste or are affiliated with a performing arts institution in Singapore or are just interested in promoting the Indian performing arts in Singapore, we request you to include a link to us on your web-site. Please list us as "Kanaka Sabha: Indian Performing Arts in Singapore."
